Louise Bowers

Dr Louise Bowers is a HCPC registered forensic psychologist, BPS chartered psychologist, registered practice supervisor, chartered scientist, and associate fellow of the BPS. Louise qualified as a forensic psychologist in 1995 and has worked in a wide range forensic settings since then. This has included employment with the Prison Service, Youth Offending Service, NHS, and locum contracts. Louise was one of the first two forensic psychologists appointed to the Parole Board in 2003 and she served as a member until 2010 when her term of office came to an end. Louise maintains a wide ranging  practice base. She lectures on the MSc in forensic psychology at Coventry University and the University of Leicester. She is an academic supervisor on the forensic psychologist practitioner programme at Cardiff  Metropolitan University as well as an assessor on the BPS qualification in forensic psychology. Louise provides therapy for private clients and she contributes to the work of her regulatory body, the HCPC, by siting on fitness to practise panels. Louise is clinical supervisor for a number of forensic psychologists in training and she is registered as an applied psychology practice supervisor.

Louise specialises in risk assessment and treatment planning for sexual, and violent offenders and fire setters. She has developed particular expertise in working with children and young people, including assessing emerging personality disorder and psychopathy for this group. She is often instructed in high-profile, challenging and unusual cases for example when very young people are charged with serious violent or sexual offences and where there is a high level of media interest. Louise is a Bond Solon/University of Cardiff accredited expert witness and regularly appears in the crown court, family court, youth court, court of appeal and in front of the Parole Board.

Louise also provides interim cover for registered psychologists and clinical supervision for forensic psychologists in training working towards the qualification in forensic psychology stage two. She has a wide range of experience developing and delivering training for clients including the Parole Board, NHS, Scottish Prison Service, Association of Prison Lawyers and The Priory Group.
